Hurricane Katrina had the most devastating impact on Louisiana where it damaged the Louisiana’s wetlands. It is unlikely that the vegetation in the marshes will grow back. Vegetation along water sources have disappeared. Remainding remains have turned an unhealthy brown shade. Katrina affected the local sea harvests. US had to increase the oyster imports from other countries. Thousands of fisherman who depended on the oyster industry find themselves jobless and unsettled. Floodwater in the city became contaminated. The disaster also disturbed underground gas and oil tanks. Also causing sewer leaks and gas pipes further contaminating the floodwater. Human corpses and dead pets further raised the risk of bacterial contamination. there are plans to place dredged material for a platform for the plants to grow on. The Louisiana Coastal Area Ecosystem Restoration Plan is also planning to rebuild barrier islands and replant lost marsh grass. Labels: summary 2
